I’m a little late to this party, but today I’m talking about oversized denim jackets and why they should be a staple in your wardrobe. I want to preface this by saying that I bought a denim jacket 5 years ago and it works fine / is cute… it just wasn’t oversized, which is what is trending right now. I think was so hesitant to test the waters of the oversized look, because it took me to long to even buy that jacket 5 years ago. I had ALL the denim jackets growing up and I just needed a minute away from them. You name it, I had it… fringe, beads, crops, white, black, blue. One for every outfit. I’m sure that sounds like I was rEaLly cool, but I was burnt out to say the least.

Because my denim jacket was fine / just not on trend, I kept convincing myself that I didn’t actually need a new denim jacket. There was nothing actually wrong with mine! Now that I have this one, I’m like why did wait so long?! It is so good! If you want to see my less-oversized one, I last posted it here. I’ll probably end up keeping it versus selling it, because it is such a classic piece.
So what’s the difference between this oversized denim jacket and my non-oversized one? For I enjoy wearing this oversized one with leggings and such as it hits longer in the rear. I really like wearing a crop or sports bra under the jacket for a sporty - chic look. I also think it dresses down dresses and skirts more and gives it more of a relaxed vibe than a form - fitting denim jacket does. It’s definitely more of a California vibe, plus I think that’s the way the world is going in fashion. Who knows that! When this pandemic is over, maybe we will all dress to the nines!
Note that don’t have to style this one differently than you would a smaller jacket. I think my smaller jacket would still look cute with the outfit I’m wearing on this post. I do think the oversized look presents more opportunities to be worn though. I like wearing this jacket to the beach, but I wouldn’t throw my smaller jacket on over my swimsuit. You can also layer an oversized denim jacket more, since there’s more space to do so… over sweaters, under jackets, you name it! Layering is huge right now and isn’t going away anytime soon. Being able to see / notice the texture and addition of the jacket isn’t usually something that occurs with smaller jackets and layering under things.

It was also made in partner with the Better Cotton Initiative which helps improve cotton farming globally. These factors put more value in the product for me. I know it is on the pricier side, but I have already gotten so much use from it and can tell that it is a great quality piece.

This post feels really short and sweet, but you asked for more fashion content, so I’m bringing it. While we are on the topic of wardrobe staples, these jeans that I’m wearing in this post are my current favorite and I wear them several times a week. These sneakers have also been my go-to for 2+ years. So comfy and they go with everything!! This headband is newer to my closet, but it doesn’t give me a headache and is super cute.
Side note - there is a chance the dye could come off of the jacket onto lighter surfaces per the tag. I’d be sure to wash it before wearing it and be mindful of lighter leathers and such. I haven’t had any issue with this, but just wanted to bring it to your attention.
